With an aim to throw light on the aspect of Global Warming,and to highlight the significance of creating awareness of the phenomenon, Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC) hosted an online session christened “Earth Has Fever” focused on 29 August 2024, The session was led by the esteemed Dr Sharmila Chattopadhay (Science Educator from US) and began at 7:30 pm. The program was coordinated by Ms. Akhila R (Asst Prof, EEE Dept) with anchoring duties performed by Sinan Sulaiman (S7, ME Dept) ensuring smooth proceedings throughout the event.
The session commenced with a silent prayer, setting a calm and reflective tone for the important topic ahead. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Siju K C (Head of VSEC, Asso Prof, AS Dept) who emphasized the significance of addressing global warming as a critical issue of our time. Felicitations were then offered by Er P K Asokan (Chief Patron) and Adv. P. N. Unnirajan IPS(Retd.)(Director of administration/Director of VSEC) prominent members of the Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT), both of whom reiterated VICT’s commitment to spreading awareness on environmental concerns.
Dr Sharmila Chattopadhay took over the session, diving deep into the various aspects of global warming. Her presentation covered a comprehensive range of topics, from the greenhouse effect and its causes to the long-term effects of climate change on our planet. Dr Sharmila emphasized the urgent need for action by highlighting the devastating impact of global warming on ecosystems, weather patterns, and human health.
Throughout the session, Dr Sharmila used a combination of scientific data and real-life examples to make the complex issue of global warming relatable and understandable for the audience. She skillfully blended research findings with everyday occurrences, such as rising temperatures and extreme weather events, to drive home the importance of immediate intervention. Her presentation style was engaging, ensuring that participants remained attentive and absorbed in the discussion.
After the main presentation, a question-and-answer session was held, allowing participants to seek clarifications and share their thoughts. Dr. Sharmila addressed each question thoughtfully, providing in-depth explanations that helped deepen the audience’s understanding of global warming. The interactive nature of the session allowed for a dynamic exchange of ideas, making it an enriching experience for all involved.
The program concluded with feedback from Farzeena P A (S5, CE Dept) who commended the session for its clarity and impact. Finally, a vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Akhila R, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Sharmila Chattopadhay, the organizers, and the participants for their involvement in making the session a success.

This made the issue of global warming feel both personal and urgent for those in attendance.Participants left the session with a stronger sense of responsibility toward combating global warming, motivated to contribute to sustainable solutions.
