Socially responsible young engineers should work for the upliftment of marginalized communities – Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindu on VSEC Day celebration.

The Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC) is an initiative to streamline and implement the social empowerment initiatives of Vidya International Charitable Trust. VSEC helm for the empowerment of the essential pillars of society – parents, children, youth and teachers. A holistic approach is followed to achieve the vision of “Progress Through Education” and VSEC supplements it by empowering the society as a whole.

Inaugural talk by Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindu

 

The VSEC Day celebration was inaugurated by Dr R Bindu (Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, Government of Kerala) on 10 February 2024 through online.

In her inaugural address, Dr Bindu specifically stressed that “our students should be able to treat all sections of the society equally and inculcate humanistic thinking. Our development should be an inclusive model,” the minister said.”Transgender individuals face significant social exclusion, often being rejected by their families and marginalized in society. This leads to severe psychological trauma and hinders their social mobility. As responsible citizens, it is imperative to acknowledge and support their circumstances. I appreciate Vidya Social Empowerment Centre, VICT and all the students. Such efforts should be extended to all marginalized communities”

The offline function began with Rangpuja by five students from the CSE Dept, followed by a presentation of a video on VAST and VSEC activities. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Siju K C (Head of VSEC, Asso Prof, AS Dept) followed by a presidential address by Mr Suresh Lal (Executive Director, VICT) and the Principal’s address by Dr Saji C B (Principal) and an address by Dr Sudha Balagopalan (Dean, Academics).

Mr Shobi T R (Velur Panchayat President) addressed the gathering and offered keynote address and also launched the website of VSEC. The logo was released by Er P K Asokan (Chief Patron) and the brochure was released by Mr K K Thilakan (Executive Committee Member,VICT) .

An excellent presentation on the topic of ‘ADITYA L1’ was given by VSEC Scholarship recipient Maheshwari Madhu (S.H.C.G.H.S.S Thrissur). To promote science awareness among school students, Vidya Social Empowerment Center (VSEC), had conducted Science Quiz . The winners Ardra Krishnakumar (Amrita Vidyalayam, Ayyanthole), Atul K J (Gurukulam Public School, Venginissery) and Vaiga Mahesh (Amrita Vidyalayam) were awarded with prize money of Rs 5000/-, Rs 3000/- Rs 2000 /- respectively during the function.This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony to all the participants,wherein the students received their certificates of excellence and a small traditional lamp as a token of appreciation.Mr Prasad (Head, Art Dept, Harisri Vidya Nidhi School, Punkunnam) who designed the logo of VSEC was also honored with a memento. Mr E G Asokan(Trustee Co-ordinator,VICT) and Dr Sunitha C (Vice Principal and HoD, AIML) distributed the prizes.Er G Mohanachandran (Honorary Advisor & Non-Executive Director, VICT) also attedend the function. Mr Manoj Chalakkal (PTA President) gave the felicitation address.

Vidya Science Scholarship recipients Maheshwari Madhu ((S.H.C.G.H.S.S Thrissur) and Aditi V J (S.H.C.G.H.S.S Thrissur) shared their experiences. VSEC volunteers, Shakti S (S8, ECE Dept) and Akhila M (S8, ECE Dept) gave a brief on their remarkable journey of empowerment and innovation throughout these 4 years.  Sreelakshmi (VSEC volunteer, S8, ECE Dept) proposed vote of thanks .

To boost students’ confidence and develop leadership skills, a personality development class was also arranged which was handled by Alex C. Chacko (Asst Prof, ME Dept) and Ms Akhila R (Asst Prof, EEE Dept).
