VSEC’s awareness program on Energy Conservation
In the modern world, energy is not merely for the future — it drives everything in the present. Energy conservation has played an important role in improving energy efficiency. To create awareness about what real energy conservation techniques are and the theory behind them, a online program was conducted for the parents of school children under the auspices of SAP (Science Awareness Program) along with VSEC (Vidya Social Empowerment Center) on 16 January 2022 via Google Meet. Dr T V Vimalkumar (Assistant Professor and Research Guide, Dept of Physics, St Thomas College, Thrissur & District Coordinator, Energy Management Centre, Govt. of Kerala) was the resource person for the session and he delivered a talk on the topic “Energy Conservation for a Sustainable Future”. Mr Alex Chacko (AP, ME Dept) introduced the resource person.
Motivational talk on Effective Parenting
Dr Rema Raghunandan started her talk with the definition of “Effective Parenting”. It basically means how to raise one’s children into remarkable and socially acceptable adults. It deals with the overall development of children—that is, their physical, mental, emotional, social, and cognitive development. She presented the various parenting styles, such as authoritative, permissive, authoritarian, and uninvolved. She stressed the aptest one — authoritative parenting. In this type of parenting, children will be able to build up self-confidence, decision-making skills, social commitment, independence, responsibility and coping mechanism.
